Friday funnies

Life before the computer:
  • Memory was something that you lost with age.
  • An application was for employment.
  • A program was a TV show.
  • A keyboard was a piano.
  • A web was a spider's home.
  • A virus was the flu.
  • A CD was a bank account.
  • A hard drive was a long trip on the road.
  • A mouse pad was where a mouse lived.
Maybe worthy of a little grin? :)

Kleenex vs. Puffs

This is not a paid endorsement.  It is purely the expression of my opinion.  I just couldn't help but speak out on my tissue discovery.  (I know. I'm a weirdo.)

I have a nasty cold.  Yes, sadly... a spring cold.  I purchased a small square box of Kleenex Tissues With Lotion, as my nose was becoming chapped from all the blowing.  The tissues were heavenly!

Then I ran out.

So off to the store I went... and purchased Puffs Plus Lotion, because the striped box was cute.

Now, I have long held the belief that Puffs were the softest.  I.Was.Wrong.  The Kleenex Tissues With Lotion were faaaaar softer on my raw nose than the Puffs Plus Lotion!  The Puffs were only slightly softer than a regular tissue with no lotion—AND there were about 20 fewer tissues in the box.

So there you have it, folks.  Take my advice.  (Or leave it.)  Kleenex is softer.

Hooray for snow!

After a weather warm-up several weeks ago, much of our snow melted—meaning no more sledding—and then in marched the frigid arctic air, leaving me cooped up in the house with two big bundles of energy!

Well, we are just pleased as punch to have gotten another 3-or-so inches of heavy, wet snow yesterday!  Here's the new friend we discovered created during our backyard adventures this afternoon.

Yay!

Mr. Sunshine himself

This morning Ryan opened his curtain and said,
"Good morning, sunshine!"  What a great way to start the day. :)

Here's what happens...

Here's what happens when you leave a tube TV on the floor for too long...

Your 4-year-old might try to use it as a jumping toy.  Which, in the scheme of things, isn't too big of a deal.  You see, while we are THE last family in North American to own a tube TV, we just received a newer tube TV from our neighbors... so we had intended on taking our 20-year-old, beat-up TV to the recycling center.  (See the missing buttons below, courtesy of the afore-mentioned 4-year-old.)

Not so SHARP anymore, eh?  Get it?  hahahahaha

Fashion NONsense

I don't normally do this kind of thing, but I received a catalog in the mail today (I don't know how I got on their mailing list) and I couldn't help myself. They were featuring their new line of lightweight wool business clothing... including a picture similar to this one:

The reason for this little bee in my bonnet? They paired a wool suit coat with a jersey hoodie. (And can I just say how much I dislike the word hoodie?) This seems like a really strange combo, as it looks like she just got done at the gym and simply threw her blazer on over her workout clothes and headed in to work. Just seems like a fashion faux pas to me.... granted, I'm not exactly a fashionista... what do I know.... I'm just sayin'...

Cabin fever?

On a lighter note... this afternoon my sons are having a blast jumping on the bed. What could be better on a cold winter day?! :)

A great way for my energetic boys to burn off some energy!! Their gleeful grins make me smile. :)

Our very own Zorro

Something happened in December, and I'm not exactly sure what ... but our 5-year-old is becoming even more boyish... challenging... and shall we say, artful? Our recent discoveries....

The legendary masked swordsman Brandon who slashes B's everywhere.... on the basement door, the bathroom door, his closet door...

...and it appears writing some additional secret code. All I have to say about it is, Why is he doing this?! and Thank God for washable markers!

Strangers

This morning my oldest son (who is about 5-1/2) asked me, "Mom, what's a stranger?" This question probably came up because the doorbell rang yesterday and he answered it before Daddy or I could get there. (It turned out to be our next-door neighbor, Miss Audrey, bearing Christmas treats — definitely not a stranger.)

Since we haven't really talked a lot about "stranger danger" I took the opportunity to explain that a stranger is someone you don't know... and that the problem with strangers is that you don't know if they're kind/good people or bad people with bad intentions.

Anyway, we talked about what could happen... that if a stranger were "bad" they could take him from us and hurt him, and then how would we find him? (I was hoping that this would impress upon him the need to use caution around people he didn't know.) Then he asked, "Would they steal our toys?" I said, "Possibly, or our computer, or our money. Or even our car." And he replied, "How would they steal our car? It would be too big to carry!"

GRIN!

Lighten up a little, I say!

I received this as an email. Don't know that it's very edifying...but perhaps worth a grin or a chuckle, at least! :)

In this life I'm a woman. If I ever had a "next life" I'd like to come back as a bear. When you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.

Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too.

When you're a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.

If you're a mama bear, everybody knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too.

If you're a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He also EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.

Just sorta makes me want to be a bear. :)

Favorite things

This morning as I was lying in bed, before I got up for the day, I started thinking about things I would classify as my favorite things. Here is a short list...

1. a good stretch first thing in the morning (the kind that evokes a "rrrr" sound from deep within)
2. morning sunshine
3. a "coffee date" with a girlfriend
4. the sound of mourning doves calling
5. a mid-day quiet time on our patio (when the kids are napping) in the shade of the maple tree
6. singing my heart out to loud worship music in the car
7. going for a walk in the quiet of morning
8. a back-scratch
9. the [usually] sweet countenance of my boys when they first wake up ☺

What are your favorite things?
